How to Become a B Corp
Any business, regardless of its size, industry, or geographic location, can begin the process of obtaining B certification Corp certification. This means that small businesses, medium-sized companies, and multinational corporations can all benefit from B Corpcertification, provided they demonstrate compliance with the required high standards of sustainability, transparency, and responsible governance.
Ollum can help you obtain B Corpcertification through a structured process that culminates in an audit and certification by B Lab, the only accredited organization for B Corp in Italy (and also abroad). The program is structured as follows:
1. Data Collection
We provide a detailed list of all the essential information needed to complete the certification process and work with your company to gather all the necessary data regarding social and environmental practices.
2. Eligibility Assessment
Once all the data has been collected, we’ll proceed with the eligibility assessment to verify that your scores are high enough to qualify for the B Corp Certification.
3. B Impact Assessment (BIA)
After verifying eligibility, we fill out the B Impact questionnaire Assessment by entering all the information in the correct format to obtain certification. To become a B Corp, you must score at least 80 points on the BIA assessment and amend the company’s articles of incorporation to include a commitment to pursue goals beyond mere profit.
4. Obtaining Certification
After completing the B Impact Assessment, the questionnaire is reviewed by B Lab, which conducts a thorough review of the data provided. If necessary, additional information or clarifications may be requested. Next, the company undergoes a verification audit, during which B Lab analyzes the documentation and verifies compliance with the required standards. If the audit is successful, B Corp Certification is officially granted.
Difference Between a B Corp and a Benefit Corporation
What is the difference between a B Corp and a Benefit Corporation? Unlike a B Corp—which, as we’ve seen, is a globally recognized certification issued by B Lab—a Benefit Corporation is a legal structure recognized in certain countries, including Italy. Companies that adopt this legal form have a legal obligation to include objectives of common benefit in their articles of incorporation, rather than pursuing profit alone.
